We have arrived…

Bonjou!!! After days of traveling and some confussion at the bus station, we have arrived last night in Delmas, Haiti! The facility is in amazing condition, and we are very fortunate to have this place!! When Heather and I were in Santo Domingo we received word from a colleague of hers from The Seattle Times, Hal Bernton, that he was arriving that night and would we like to travel together!? We called him and said we would meet him at the bus station, and lucky for us, he was there before us!! He was able to secure 3 of the last tickets on the final bus running that day!! When Geoff said it "was a tough trip"--he was not kidding!! For those who are sensitive to motion sickness, the bus ride was a bit rough....It is now 8:15 in the morning and we have been up for a couple of hours getting all the computers onling and downloading a new wireless router program. After we complete our emails, we will head out into the city for the day, trying to visit as many tent cities as possible. I created a spreadsheet last night, for us to research today. We are hoping by the weeks end to have selected our first 100 candidates. As we drove into the city last night, there were several vendors selling food on the streets, so that was good to see. However, so many people have nothing, or no way of purchasing these items....it is our mission that those people get food and water as soon as we can get it for them....
Hal will be moving on to The Mercy Corps today and he has many interviews set up this week. He is here on a personal level to volunteer and help in any way he can, but he will also be geting many stories along the way!! Yon lot moman....see you later smile
