The presumption that Haitian peasants do not and probably cannot be thinkingfor themselves is an old and apparently quite durable opinion. It does notaccord with the facts. Worse than that: Haiti has had an on-going afflictionof people who arrogated to themselves the privilege of thinking for theHaitian people. If it were a weed we would call it a non-native invasive.
To disregard and dishonor the ability of Haitians of any social sector tothink for themselves has led to the creation of large and refractory aspectsof the current situation.
